Introduction of PI

Dr. Chunyu Liao is an Associate Professor (Tenure Track) at the School of Life and Health, Shenzhen University of Advanced Technology. She has been selected for the National Overseas High-Level Youth Talent Program and appointed as a Category B Scholar under Shenzhen's "Pengcheng Plan." Her research group is funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, provincial, and municipal research foundations. Dr. Liao earned her Ph.D. from Iowa State University in the United States and completed postdoctoral training at North Carolina State University and the Helmholtz Institute for RNA-based Infection Biology in Germany. Her long-term research focuses on the biology and molecular mechanisms of bacterial defense systems, as well as the development, optimization, and application of gene-editing tools. In recent years, her work has been published in journals such as Nature Microbiology, Nature Communications, Annual Review of Genetics, Molecular Cell, Nucleic Acids Research, and PNAS. The CRISPR array construction method she developed has been widely adopted, and her systematic research on CRISPR RNA biogenesis has gained significant recognition in the field.
Research Area
1. Develop and optimize genetic tools for bacterial engineering and Gene/Cell Therapy
2. Investigate Mechanisms of Bacterial Defense Systems in Microbe-Phage Interactions
3. Investigate mechanisms of interactions between pathogenic/probiotic bacteria and their host
